Piotr Wojcik was born in Krakow, Poland in 1969. In 1985, he arrived in France, in Dijon, the capital of Burgundy. In 1995, he obtained his Diploma from the Ecole Nationale des Beaux Arts in Dijon with the creation and execution of a series of monumental paintings of chickens. As a result of this brilliant success, he was granted a third cycle at the Beaux Arts in Nantes, with his first large-scale paintings of cows.


His birth, in the heart of Silesia, was to have a marked effect on the artist. The harshness of the scarred landscape, depriving town and countryside of all colour, was to influence his painting and technique profoundly. Using a very minimal colour spectrum, of black and burnt sienna, the artist’s works are all imprinted with this Silesian greyness. It is his technical virtuosity that brings life and radiance to his canvasses. His paintings are rendered unique and magical by his use of oil and water, which allows him to play with the contrasts of light and shadow, of apparition and disappearance.

As soon as he left the Beaux Arts, his artist’s eye was caught by the cattle of the French countryside, and he celebrates the animal as much for its obvious beauty as for the emotion that it engenders. Magnificent Charollais cows toss their horns on large canvasses, thus restoring to favour a creature largely ignored in contemporary painting.

In 1998, Piotr Wojcik settles down in the heart of the Saone-et-Loire. Here he paints the daily world that surrounds him : cows, horses, pigs, chickens and the farmland they inhabit, filled with striking vigour and realism.

Since his first show at the Academie Royale des Beaux Arts de Bruxelles in 1996, Piotr has regularly exhibited his work in France and abroad.
