The Gallery

Mark Coreth (1958 - London, England)

GO TO WWW.MARKCORETH.COM FOR ALL LATEST NEWS

Mark Coreth has been represented by the Sladmore for over 20 years.hHis amazing bronzes of animals in motion have gained him an enviable International reputation. The last few shows can be viewed on our exhibition pages, and include studies from The Serengeti and other parts of Africa, the Galapagos, Tibet, India and the Falkland islands , amongst others.

The gallery always holds a selection of work from previous shows and recent pieces prior to the next exhibition. His commissioned work includes a set of flying albatross for the Falklands Memorial Chapel, a large figure of a boatman made for the opening of the Globe Theatre, and the monumental Millennium sculpture, 'The Waterhole', outside the Natural History Museum. The journey of the second of his massive life size Charging Elephants to its new home in Rome can be seen on our news page.
Mark has just returned from the Arctic where he has been searching for Polar bear and planning his next show around the wildlife and landscape of that region. He witnessed the effects of climate change when he first travelled to Baffin Island during November 2007. This stimulated his concern for the preservation of that threatened environment in general and the Polar Bear in particular. He knows that few will ever experience the Arctic, but realised that he could bring the Arctic to us in his next exhibition.
Mark was so concerned at the fragility of the region he wanted to make a sculpture to bring home to the wider world the desperation of the plight of the Polar bear . To this end he is creating a life-sized sculpture out of ice. He is sculpting a bear skeleton in bronze suspending it in a massive block of ice and then carving the ice into a bear. This has been given permission to be placed in Trafalgar square where it will last approx one week before melting away, leaving the skeleton in a pool of water, an eloquent visualisation of the situation with a powerful environmental message.

Marks next exhibition is at Galerie La Cymaise in Paris in the Autumn and then the arctic show is at Bruton place in 2010.
